Breakfast Berry Smoothies: An advantageous way to start your day.

The digestion process is one of the most energy consuming functions the human body undergoes. Eating heavier traditional breakfast foods, such as breads and cereals, in the morning can slow the body down rather then give it the necessary energy and power needed to start off the day. Smoothies on the other hand are quite advantageous as their contents are already liquefied, leaving the digestive system with hours less work to do and therefore allows the body to reap the benefits by directly absorbing all the nutrients and energy the fruits, vegetables and any supplements added have to offer. Try these berry smoothie recipes and start your day off right.

Blueberry Burst Power Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups vanilla soy milk
1 chopped and peeled banana
2 tbsp. fresh or frozen blueberries
1 tbsp. spirulina*

Directions:
Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend on high for one minute. Pour and enjoy!

*Spirulina is a green blue coloured algae sold widely in health food stores in powder and pill form. It contains many nutrients including: vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, iron and high amounts of protein. Such vitamins help overcome iron deficiencies and provide protein boosts. It will also turn your smoothies super green!

Strawberry Fields Energy Smoothie
1/3 cup water
5 slices fresh pineapple juice
1 peeled banana
6 or 7 frozen or fresh strawberries
1/8 cup wheatgrass juice*

Directions:
Blend the pineapple juice and water for 10 seconds. Add the banana then blend for 30 seconds on high. Bring the blender down to the low setting and add the strawberries for one minute. Then add the wheatgrass, blending for 5 seconds. Pour and Enjoy!

* Wheatgrass is young sprouted wheat, sold in health food stores in powder, pill and frozen juice form. You can even grow it on you own windowsill. Wheatgrass is not only infused with many vitamins but is a great for detoxifying the body and for developing strong immune system.
