Smoothie Blender Usage & Cleaning Tips

Cleaning Blender

Smoothie blenders are quality home or business kitchen appliances that are generally expensive pieces of culinary equipment. Given this fact, it is important in order to preserve the quality of the appliance and give it a longer life span, that it is  maintained and cared for it, whether for your home or business.

Usage tips for your smoothie blender:

  1. Read the manual of your blender to get acquainted with your appliance. This will get you familiarized with what it is capable of doing and what it’s limits are. Not all blenders are the same!
  1. Chop the food you are going to make into a smoothie before placing it in the blender jar. The blender motor can burn out if too much stress is put on it from trying to puree large chunks of food.
  1. Don’t run your blender on high speeds for long periods. Give the blender breaks in between lengthier usage, especially if the blender starts to smell or gets very hot.
  2. For businesses, assigning different blenders for different drink purposes to reduce unwanted flavour combining. For example, assign one blender for coffee or espresso enhanced smoothies, fruit and vegetables for another.
  1. If the blender gets stuck and stops, turn it off in order to preserve the blades and motor, and shift the contents around. Or alternatively, remove cut the larger chunks that refuse to be pureed in the size they are.

  1. Even the more ‘quiet’ smoothie blenders can be loud. One way to reduce the noise is to cover it with a tea towel while you are blending.
  1. Do not to overfill the blender jar. Leave some space at the top of the container for ingredients to move around in order to save yourself kitchen and clothing clean up time.  Add ingredients one at a time, mixing after each addition.

Cleaning Tips:

1. Hand wash your smoothie blender as much as possible, even the one’s labelled ‘dishwasher safe’. This is in order to preserve the rubber gaskets that can shrink or deform in the dishwasher.

2. For a quick clean fill the blender jar halfway with hot water and add a drop soap or vinegar. Run the blender for a minute, and then discard the water.

3. Wash and dry your blender, particularly the blades after each use to protect against food build up and rust. Take apart the blender as much as possible before cleaning so no hidden food is left behind.
