Running a top Smoothie Business: Five steps to stay ahead of your competitors

Running a successful smoothie business is no easy feat. Here are five tips on how you can stay ahead of your competitors and up your game.

1. Know your competitors – Mr. Juice it just opened up across the street and is taking some of your business, the question is what are you going to do about it? Simple, get to know them! Getting to know your competitors is best way to find out what you’re up against. How do they treat their customers? What kind of service do they offer? What kind of juicers and blenders do they use? How do they advertise? This information will show you how your smoothie business can be different and offer customers what your competitors don’t.

2. Quality Service and Innovative Products – Stay ahead of your competition with innovative products and quality service. Even if it’s just tweaking some of the ingredients, adding new exotic supplements, making creative smoothie names or adding new promotions, such as ‘Toonie Tuesdays’ or ‘Two Dollar Tuesdays’ where customers can purchase a certain smoothie on Tuesday for only two dollars. These small details can make a big difference. Ask yourself what makes your service special? What makes your product more attractive to your customer? And why would people want to come to you rather than your competition?

3. Get Customer Feedback – Get to know your customers and find out what they want. There are many ways you can get this feed back; hosting a contest to name a new smoothie one month, survey cards, open up a forum on your website or networking page (i.e. Facebook or Twitter) where customers can add comments or even just talking to them personally are just some examples of how you can get in contact with them. The main thing is to get their feedback, listen to what they have to say and find a way to implement it.

4. Build a Strong Team – Do you have a strong group of energized and motivated people working with you, who stand behind and care about your products? And do they do the best they can to sell them? Surround your business with the people who have the necessary skills and most importantly, the right attitude in order for your smoothie business to thrive.

5. Community and Environment – In this day and age people are much more concerned about ethical treatment of workers, fair trade, going organic and how business are impacting the greater community. Especially the kind of people who go to smoothie bars. Even if you are only a small smoothie business just starting out , consider the bigger picture. How are you giving back to the community? How is your business doing it’s part in conserving the environment and what is it doing to reduce it’s carbon foot print? Do you offer organic ingredients? And are you purchasing them locally? Advertise these features of your smoothie bar and let your clients know that your business is doing more than just making you money, but also helping to serve the larger community and environment. Not only is this ethical business, it’s also a great advertising point and something that will attract more customers for you.
